Navajo Weaver 4697

This is Suzy.  A spry but grizzled old Navajo who posed for us during the April 2004 Monument Valley workshop.  She demonstrated her skill at weaving.  It takes a lot of work to make even a small rug like this.  Not only is the weaving itself a skill and an art form, but the sheep must be raised and sheared, the wool carded and spun into thread and died.  The whole process is much more complex than what we saw here.

This image was published in the August 2005 issue of American Indian Report in an article on weaving.
