I stopped at Valley of Fire State Park.  This was Nevada's first State Park (or so the brochure says). I arrived after dark and went to sleep after listening to reports of our first attack on Baghdad on the radio.  This was about the last news we had on the trip until the drive home.  It was nice to just concentrate on photography and the outdoors even though we knew this major endeavor was going on.  There was plenty of time to catch up after I got home by watching Fox News on TV. Valley of Fire deserved more time than I had.  I'd like to go back some time now that I know my way around.

Cholla Sunrise

Just prior to sunrise the light from the sunlit clouds back lights the cholla cactus making it seem to glow.

Moonset at Valley of Fire

It's pretty obvious where the name Valley of Fire comes from when the suns first rays ignite the red sandstone formations.  Here, a cholla cactus and the setting moon give more depth to the picture.

Plastic Surgeon's Nightmare

To me this looks like the nose and upper teeth of some bizarre creature.  Possibly one of the Orc's from Lord of the Rings.

Elephant Rock Sunrise

It's easy to see why this formation got it's name.
