Glacier National Park is full of lakes.  Some next to the road, many accessible only by hiking.  Most are beautiful.  Here are a few.

St. Mary Lake

Beautiful blue water framed by the mountains and a twisted old tree.  Two shot panorama.

Grinnell Lake

We had planned to hike to a different lake named Iceberg for the chunks of ice usually floating in it until September, but the trail was closed due to "bear activity".  We still wanted to see one of the turquoise colored glacial lakes that the park is known for so hiked to Grinnell Lake Instead.  On the trail we passed a number of people who had seen a grizzly, but by the time we got there the rangers had closed that part of the trail and we had to hike back a different way.  We missed the bear, but the lake was beautiful.

Smokey Sunrise at St. Mary Lake

Drifting smoke from the nearby fire adds a mysterious quality to this image.  It's hard to believe this is the same lake as in the top picture on this page.  The island is called Wild Goose Island.  If you look closely it resembles a goose flying to the right.
