Ringling Museum and MansionBack to Longboat Key Gallery
John Ringling, one of the Ringling Brothers of Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus fame built a mansion and art museum on the eastern shore of Sarasota Bay. After his death he left both to the state of Florida. They fell into disrepair. When told that there was a leaky ceiling in the room the Ruben's paintings were displayed in, one Florida legislator is reported to have said, "Rubens! If I wanted a Rubens I'd send out to the deli!" The state finally appropriated money to maintain and refurbish the museum and the mansion in the 1990's. Here are some images from both. Back to Longboat Key Gallery
