The Valley Floor
Back to Yosemite Main page.We spent most of the time during the day walking the floor of Yosemite Valley. There were many opportunities for great images. Almost any place you decided to stop had possibilities. Here a few. Click on images below for enlarged view.
Fern Springs Falls Fern Springs is just off the main road through the valley. We spent quite a bit of time photographing here and got quite a few good images.
Tenaya Creek Tenaya Creek flows through what used to be Mirror Lake. The park naturalists thought it was unnatural to continually dredge the lake so they have let it fill up with sand and dirt to create Mirror Meadow a bit farther upstream. There are still some spots that create "mirrors" and provide nice reflections of Half Dome and Mt. Watkins..
Merced River Reflections There are a number of contrasting elements in this image that make it work for me. The smooth water contrasts with the rapids, the green water with both the white water and the gray rocks, and the vertical lines in the reflection contrast with the curve of the tree branch in the foreground.
Merced River Sunrise Reflections The clouds are lit by the sun prior to rising and reflect in the interesting pattern created by a tree branch.
